From Dr. Sanchez (Elena's Pediatric ICU Doc):
1. X-ray this morning shows Elena's R lung improving slowly but surely.
2. She could possibly be on the vent (ventilator) for another 7-10 days. (Worst case)
3. There is minimal drainage from both the chest tubes. (That's good.)
4. Her WBC (White Blood Cell) count is normal.
5. The antibiotics she's been taking (Rocephin and Vancomisin) are strong enough to have knocked out any legionella/pseudomona bacteria. Her current scenario is not likely to have been a legionella/pseudomona scenario.
6. It seems more like a strep-pneuma.
7. Seems like it started out as viral, then became bacterial--on top of the viral.
8. The 48-hr cultures from blood & fluid from thorocotomy are still negative. (That's good.)
9. Patients are typically on antibiotics for 14-21 days. Elena has been on them for 8 days so far.
10. The chest tubes will most likely be removed after she's been extibated (The ventilator gets taken out.)
11. Her overall picture: she's improving.
Thank God!!
Thanks for your continued prayers for both Elena & Daylen (Elena's PICU neighbor)!!
