Subject: Thank You friends & family!

Elena update:

A.) For those of you who hadn't heard, her thorocotomy (chest surgery) went great on Sunday! Thank God for Dr. Bryant! He wasn't even scheduled to come in on Sunday. He wasn't on-call or on duty. He just 'decided' to come in...hmm, sounds like God to me. Though we weren't super excited about it the first time we heard about the possibility, it ended up going great. The doc removed about 1 cup of goop from Elena's chest cavity that surrounded her R lung. He made about a 3"-4" horizontal incision from under her right armpit to just under her nipple. Then he went between her ribs on into the chest cavity to get the krap out. It was originally supposed to take about 90 min & it took him about 45 min! Thank God!

Tues, 10.26.09, 11:45pm

1.) Vitals are stable. (Thank God!)

2.) Today's x-rays were improved from yesterday's x-rays! Praise God!

3.) No fever.

4.) WBC (White Blood Cell) count is normal.

5.) Will be heavily sedated (completely knocked out) as long as she's ventilated. She's been that way since Thursday. They can't have her reaching for or grabbing any of the 10 or 15 tubes, wires or IVs that she's hooked up to. It's a bummer b/c we haven't been able to really interact w/her since Thursday. But, we still pray with/for her, sing to her, read to her...still continue on w/her dance lessons, etc...ok, j/k!

6.) She will occassionally gag b/c her body is still producing secretions (which is pretty normal), but the PICU nursing staff jumps to the occassion & quickly suctions out her throat & airways. That's kinda brutal to watch b/c she turns all red & her heart rate increases for just a brief moment until they're able to clear the krap out. Then she returns back to normal color & breathing.

7.) Blood gases are normal.

8.) PEEP (Positive End Expatory Pressure) setting is at 8 & 40% concentration of O2. They'll be gradually weening her off the ventilator over the next few days.

9.) All fluid & blood cultures have returned negative. (That's very good.)

10.) God-willing her lung will begin expanding all the way soon!

11.) Prayer for:

A.) Complete expansion of her R lung.

B.) Her x-rays will continue to improve daily.

C.) Her full & speedy recovery!

D.) Her PICU bed neighbor, Daylen...that both of his lungs will fully inflate on their own as soon as possible & that all his vitals will continue to remain normal.

E.) That both Daylen & Elena will be 100% & chipper, kickin butt & taking names at their own homes as soon as possible!

E.) The wonderful medical staff that are taking care of Daylen & Elena.

Thank you all!

We love & appreciate you!
